This peom is really gay and makes no sense at all. Seeing that she was a lez, i dont know why we support this and read this crap.

Mr. x, i didnt know that poems could be, as you so ignorantly put it, "gay". Maybe you are gay. Dickenson is a great poet, granted Whitman is better, she is also good.

Mr. Y, why are you able to say that Dickinson is a good poet but Mr. X isn't aloud to say she's bad? And, if you were trying to sound smart, try by starting by spelling the poets name correctly...especially if it's at the top of the page. (DickInson)...or were you talking about someone else...

the sexual orientation of the poet has nothing to do with the poem. it is not about being gay.
The speaker [not the writer!] has died and is waiting with the carriage to the afterlife as teh driver is picking up other passengers.
It symbolizes the fact that everybody must die; we can not choose our own time but must accept what has been chosen for us.
A theme of the poem: it is not important that you lived, but what you did with life.

Emily Dickinson is a great poet she uses alot off imagery, personification and metaphors. The metaphor is the carriage "He" represents death the theme of the poem is Death . If you know where she uses it then maybe you wouldnt think it was gay.

Puzzled by "lez" comment. Relevance, Mr X? To me, it's a poem about a moment of revelation, which is usually benign but this is one of terror, as one possibility of the afterlife is revealed as the endless pure experience of eternity, with time itself trotting along forever as the only companion. Sweet dreams, y'all.

I nearly thought that this site was for half-way intelligent people until I read the comment by Mr. X (great originality in the name, by the way). It's sad that idiots like this guy end up popping up everywhere.

Mr. Z, your comment was almost as ignorant as Mr. X. I guess everyone's entitled to their own opinion, so if you want to say the poem is good or bad thats fine. But, you don't say that its gay (thats immature) and your just as unintelligent for saying that its okay for that kid to say that the poem is gay.
