Robert Service makes the words of a poem come alive. I really enjoyed the poem.
Best when read aloud

Among poems that are great fun to read aloud, The Cremation of Sam McGee is one of the very best. Try it -- and SEE if you don't get hooked on it.
such a good poem

This poem is one of the best that I have ever read. I was so impressed with the poem that I decided to share it with many others in my class. We all decided to write poems modeled after "The Cremation of Sam McGee", and actually enjoyed writing them. Many thanks to Robert Service for such a great poem.

Yes...to the one who said it should be read out loud...I'd never heard of Robert Service, but my grandma bragged to someone that I could read poetry outloud...they pulled out a book of poetry by Service, and this poem, and ordered me to read.
And I was hooked lol.

I first heard this poem in a camporee in tiger scouts (age 5 or 6) and i completely forgot about service until 2 or 3 years my moms friend died and I find a "greatest hits" book and inherited it. I'm surpised some of his other poems are on here such as Normandy Peasant, Cafe de la Paix, and my brother.

I just can't get over how great this poem is. It's definitely one of my "all-time" favorites. Robert Service is a genius. Move over Einstein!

I first became acquainted with this poem when it was recited by a U S Forest Service official in a tent 11,000 feet up in the Rockies; it was sleeting outside. A great poem to read at a party.
Talk about atmosphere

I first read "The Cremation of Sam McGee" as my friends and I were driving through the Yukon Territory on our first trip to Alaska. I learned the poem by heart and recited it many years later while sitting at a campfire with the northern lights dancing in the winter sky above me. That's what I'm talking about!.
Breathtakingly beautiful

The first time I heard this poem was when my teacher introduced it to my 7th grade class. I fell in love immediately. Robert Service is indeed a poetic genius. He does such a wonderful job of capturing the austere scenic beauty of the Arctic that you can really feel "Your blood run cold". I just love it!!!!
