Always searching, may you find;
if you run-down,
may you wind;
every year
may you grow
reaping only
what you sow
sowing only in the seed
what will ripen into need
what will sweeten to the touch
seeming little, being much.

May your playmates be a song,
may your friends just skip along
laughing you into their game
letting you remain the same
in their hearts and on their lips
even when their fingertips
have to let you go your way—
glad they saw Alix today.

Cinq vœux pour Alix

Puisses-tu trouver
sans cesser de chercher ;
puisses-tu te retrouver,
si tu as tout lâché ;
puisses-tu, chaque année,
moissonner le grain
par toi seule semé
dans ton jardin
pour que cette récolte soit
ce qui compte pour toi
et douce à ta main
fasse beaucoup, qui n'était rien.

Que tes jeux soient chanson,
que s'ébattent ces enfants
dont les rires t'accueillent
sur leurs lèvres et dans leur cœur
où tu seras toujours Alix
--lancée dans le monde
une fois défaite la ronde--
leur bonheur d'aujourd'hui.
