I find this poem interesting--you know, how the people could say what "the violets spoke thus" when "there are no violets here". They were sad that there were no violets (and I think they were fighting) as the violets could not tell them how to stop it. Intruiging, no?
I think this illustrates a sort of paradox--you know something but you need someone to tell it to you before you really know it.

Apparently, I didn't live in that land without violets ---> I would have given up my lover freely to another woman. You guys don't know him, he's annoying. Most likely, the other woman wouldn't have accepted!!
