Raleigh didn't get it. Marlowe was an artist and Raleigh was a money grubber. The irony of the former passed over the head of the latter.
But he wrote a nice, non-ironic poem and gained fame by linking to the master.

How disapointing. Personally, I feel Raleigh wrote a thought-provoking reply to Marlowe. Although somewhat pessimistic on the views of love, it is realistic to a certain extent.
