The translation misses out on the rhythm.
It doesn't scan properly in English.
This is my translation:

The word landed with a stony thud
Onto my still-beating breast.
Nevermind, I was prepared,
I will manage with the rest.

I have a lot of work to do today;
I need to slaughter memory,
Turn my living soul to stone
Then teach myself to live again...

But how? The hot summer rustles
Like a carnival outside my window;
I have long had this premonition
Of a bright day and a deserted house.

I can send you my full translation of 'Requiem' but only by pigeon post.
I am currently working on a theatrical adaptation of 'Poem without a hero.

Would appreciate any of the many Russian versions, including fragments. I know there are lots and I don't trust Amanda Haight's assertion that Ahmatova declared Haight's version as final.

Reply if you wish. Sasha.

If my mother (Amanda Haight) said that Anna Akhmatova said her version was final then that is what she said. That does not mean that she wouldn't have liked your translation it just means that she did like my mother's and hated all the ones before. She was not impressed by people presuming they knew what she wanted or thought that's why she approved my mother's book.
Yours sincerely, Justine
