Thank God for Brautigan, one of the few poets that can write in the vernacular without wearing plain language like a badge for accessibility. The Beautiful Poem is essentially dick waving: look at me, banged my woman good. With the innocence and naivety of the title balancing the shock of this assertion, however, it's not a bad poem. And in a time when many poets were obsessed with how Zen they were, writing haiku like it was mystical insight from the far east, or else penning nightmarishly long polemics, its nice to see something so direct.

This poem is absolutely amazing. Its beautifully written, but direct at the same time. I really feel no need to be disgusted or ashamed by this, its human emotion at its best.

Maybe I'm just crazy, but I really liked this poem for one simple reason: it made me laugh. It caught me off-guard and successfully brightened my day. I think you guys could stand to stop taking this so seriously, step back and enjoy what's been written.

I didn't try to analyze it or find any sort of deep, hidden, spiritual meaning in it. It's just a little poem about something that happened to him. It's REAL, and it totally roxxerz my non-existant boxers.

Gross no. But I find some of his love/sex poems a tad tedious and lazy. At least this one's a bit original in its connection, but not particularly enlightening.

No, i dont feel discusted by this. i think this is a beautiful poem expressing someones honest feelings that someone gets after making love and i think its an exquisite descriptive poem.
