Claire was emotionally needy and Byron's lover; they had a daughter. Mary Shelley said, I believe in free love, but not free hurt. Mary Shelley said of Claire, She's infatuated with him, to which Shelley responded, Who wouldn't be? Mary asked Byron, Are you planning to discard her? She'll be devestated you know, to which he responded, I never plan anything.
