If there is still debate as to the essential differences between the poetry of Plath and that of her contemporary, Anne Sexton, the most crucial one is that while reading Sexton makes you want to find the courage to survive, reading Plath sometimes really does make you want to kill yourself. Which one of them was right about the answering 'Live or Die' question? Neither? Both?
