I could read this over and over and over and never get tired of it. It doesn't require wrapping your mind around anything, or grasping at something to analyze. It's just there. I like it.

Conrad Aiken has been described as a 'semi-poet' who toys with words rather than feels them. I think it's an unjust assessment because 'Nocturne' is one of the most beautiful poems I've read. I identify totally with the words (which, I suppose helps) because they describe the one lost love of my own life. but I defy anyone to tell me that the last stanza doesn't bring a few tears to the eyes. Technically imperfect? Maybe, but Aiken sure has a way with words.
