The most meaningful part of this poem to me is that robert service was insecure about how his significant other felt, or would feel about him. He wondered if she shared the same feelings about him, as he did her at the time he was overcome by alchohol. He abused alcohol to deal with this insecurity instead of directly seeking the truth from his "significant other". Once he learned the truth that his "significant other" did in fact share his feelings, his feelings were justified by hers and became more meaningful than what he had been using as a crutch (alcohol). That is why he vowed to replace the original wedding ring.
