I think that this poem is more nostalgic than the rest of you seem to be express. I think its about the broken ness of a family that has grown up and moved on. There used to be so much life here, but now there is only an imprint left. Larkin points to so many simple, quotidian things, that have no real meaning to us, but for him, they hold so much memory and happiness. he wishes that everything could be used so avidly as it once was.
