Children can be so harsh.

Brief. Evocative. Beautiful. Sad yet True.
I remember seeing an old married couple...he older, more fragile than her, her hand on his elbow, each helping the other along a dug up steet in Calcutta (India). The total trust, the interdependence over the years...these needed no telling but was so evident. I found myself praying for these total strangers that one would not go before the other. Calling them (and others like them ) "Old Fools" and the like, is just a new foolishness of generation now.
The poet need not worry...life is a cycle...those calling names will soon be at the receiving end.

i think that her leaving the character of "her loved one" out of the poem except for as "her loved one" is purposeful ambiguity. He is not there. she is alone, and this is why the children call her a fool...
perhaps i have no idea of what i speak, but otherwise where is a mention of her love? why is he blank and not there?
