I just discovered this poem, and wow! It's a remarkable piece, very deep and beautiful

I like how Mary interweaves the scene of the dying Buddha with the sunrise she is watching, clearly equating the two. The Buddha's slowly rising head and the slowly rising sun, the frightened villiagers and Mary herself, who feels insignificant compared with the light and beauty of the rising sun. And yet, as the Buddha said what he said to comfort, to INSPIRE the frightened villagers, so too are we warmed by the sun. We too can feel that inexplicable value. Make of yourself a light, share in the sun's glory.
