The progression of this poem is interesting. The first stanza goes from life, to death, and back, a couple of times, and indicates that without the death, life wouldn't be as interesting. The second stanza seems more focused on the more depressing things, but still seems to emphasize that dark colors are needed along with light colors to make a beautiful painting.
