I don't know much about Borges... I'm familiar with him via James Joyce -- I love his poems about him. But this poem... didn't Borges go blind in his later years? This poem might have something to do with that... ?

OF COURSE it is about HIS blindness— and ALL blindness!
He has meaningful, if not terrifying, perspective and conveys it with almost loving tenderness. This amazing quality suffuses most of Borges writings (prose and poetry).
