Again I am surprised there are no comments on this poem. It is very original and full of vivid images, the snake's eye is a particularly powerful one, but also the auditory image of the butcher's guilltine whispering, and the flies caught in the web at the end. Many of Plaths' poems seem to be centered about herself or some part of her immediate surroundings, but this one is refreshingly panoramic.
