The imagery of the candle light evoking maternial instinct is so moving. It is easy to focus on the dark themes synonomous with Plath's poetry, however, the theme of light the gentle and touching love of the bond shared between mother and child are also extensively explored by Plath e.g. 'By Candlelight' and 'Nick and the Candlestick'
