Like so many of his, like so much of life, the simple pleasure he took in retelling something so plain jumps off the page. It's too bad that no one else can capture the beauty in sickness, but if you were to ask him he would say that there are more than can then can't, they just don't know it.

A wonderfull display of how sickness and life can be so complicated and boring at the same time - the cat finished it off nicely

Scott, there are actually alot of poets and writers who can capture the "beauty in sickness" that bukowski does. sylvia plath, anne sexton, and more recently, writers like elizabeth wurtzel and marya hornbacher. need i continue? the list is endless.
